"When does ghd go on sale in New Zealand?" is the most-asked question we get about hot tools, and the honest answer annoys people: ghd is on sale somewhere in NZ almost all the time. The discount is not the rare event the banner makes it look like.

What actually happens

Large chains buy ghd in volume on terms a salon cannot match. That lets them run 25-30% off as a more-or-less permanent state, punctuated by deeper one-night promos. When you see "SALE ENDS TONIGHT" on a ghd styler, it very often does not - the same price returns the following week under a different banner.

So what should you actually pay?

Here is the honest range. The "good price" column comes from ghd NZ, Vivo, Shaver Shop, Farmers and Haircare Market, checked on 13 July 2026. "Ours" is our live price as at 3 November 2026.

Brand-new ghd releases usually hold their price at launch. ghd Sculpt launched at $629, and in July every NZ stockist we checked was holding that price. Ours is now $466.21.

Should you wait for a sale?

When is ghd cheapest in NZ?

There isn't one magic week. Chains run ghd promotions every few weeks and then go back to their usual price. Compare today's prices across a few stockists rather than waiting for a banner, and check the price on the day you buy.

Is a ghd on sale the same as a full-price one?

If it's genuine stock from a proper stockist, yes. Same tool, same warranty. Be careful with very cheap ghds on marketplaces, which can be fakes or grey imports without the two-year ghd warranty.

How can I tell if a ghd is fake?

Warning signs are a price far below everyone else, no warranty information, poor packaging and a seller you can't return it to. Buy from a salon or a retailer you can walk back into, and keep your receipt for the warranty.

Should I wait for a sale to buy a ghd?

If you want a ghd original or a ghd gold and you're not in a hurry, waiting may save you money. Newer models like Sculpt tend to hold their price, so compare today's prices rather than waiting.

Is an older ghd model on sale worth buying?

Often, yes. An older model is still a good tool. Just know what you're buying: the newer versions usually hold their temperature more evenly, and run-out stock may have less choice of colour or warranty support down the track.

Do I need a heat protectant with a ghd?
