Balayage in Queenstown

Balayage that grows out softly and looks sun-kissed in Queenstown light — that’s our specialty. At Crew Stylists, hand-painted balayage is one of the things we’re most asked for, and our 4.9-star reviews show how seriously we take it.

What balayage looks like at Crew

Balayage is a freehand, hand-painted technique that creates a soft, lived-in blend with no harsh regrowth line — so you’re not chained to a six-week rebook. Our colourists paint to suit your face, your natural base and how much upkeep you actually want. We tone for Queenstown’s strong outdoor light, so your colour looks balanced on the slopes, by the lake and everywhere in between — not just under the salon lights.

Balayage vs foils — which is right for you?

Balayage gives a softer, more natural sun-kissed effect with gentle regrowth, ideal if you want low-maintenance colour. Foils give brighter, crisper, more uniform lift if you’re going noticeably lighter. Plenty of our clients blend both — foils up top, balayage through the lengths. At your consultation we’ll tell you honestly which suits your hair and lifestyle.

Healthy colour, every time

Lightening is still lightening, so bond protection is non-negotiable for us. We build in bond-care and the right toner to keep your hair feeling strong and looking glossy, and we’ll set you up with a simple home routine to protect your investment between visits.

Frequently asked

How often do I need to refresh balayage?

Most clients come back every 8–12 weeks, often with a toner refresh in between. Because balayage grows out softly, you can stretch appointments further than with traditional foils.

Is balayage damaging to my hair?

Any lightening lifts the hair, but with proper bond protection, the right toner and a good home routine — all of which we build in — balayage stays healthy and glossy.

How long does a balayage appointment take?

Usually 2.5–3.5 hours depending on your hair length, thickness and how much lift you're after. We'll confirm timing at your consultation.
