Questions we get asked +

How do I use hair oil?
Two ways. On towel-dried hair, run one to three drops through the mid-lengths and ends before you blow-dry to smooth and soften. On dry hair, use a single drop on the ends to finish and tame flyaways. Warm it in your palms first, keep it away from the roots and add more only if you need it.

Which hair oil is right for my hair?
Kérastase Elixir Ultime L'Huile Originale suits most hair types and is the one we use most in the chair. Blond Absolu L'Huile Cicaextreme is for lightened blondes. Absolut Repair Molecular Oil suits heavily damaged hair, Gloss Absolu Oil is for shine, and Chronologiste L'Huile de Parfum is as much a hair fragrance as a treatment. See our Elixir Ultime guide.

Will hair oil make fine hair greasy?
Only if you use too much or put it near the scalp. Start with one drop on the very ends. Kérastase Première Huile Gloss Réparatrice comes in a 30ml size, which is a good way to test if your hair likes oil before committing. If even a drop flattens it, a light leave-in will probably suit you better.

Why are some oils sold as refills?
Kérastase offers refills of Elixir Ultime, Blond Absolu Cicaextreme and Chronologiste L'Huile de Parfum. You keep the original glass bottle and top it up, which means less packaging each time you run out. Buy the full bottle once, then switch to refills.

What's the difference between a hair oil and a hair serum?
Oils mostly work on the lengths: shine, softness and flyaway control. Serums cover a wider job. Some are scalp treatments, some are night repair for the lengths, some are heat protection. If the issue is your ends looking dull or frizzy, oil. If it's your scalp or a specific repair job, look at our serums.
